The Dale and Frances Hughes Legacy

R. Dale Hughes and his wife, Frances, of East Stroudsburg, made a gracious philanthropic gift of $1.2 million to the community in 2000 for the Hughes Cancer Center, now part of Lehigh Valley Health Network.  The Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center was subsequently named in their honor. This gift has led to significant expansion of the Cancer Center to meet the needs of patients and families dealing with cancer in the Pocono region. At the time, R. Dale Hughes stated, “This gift will help ensure that members of our community have access to superior cancer care.”

The funding of the Cancer Center was particularly close to Hughes' heart, as he explained, "The Pocono Cancer Center is of great interest to me since I have encountered cancer and understand personally what people must go through to effectively deal with the disease." Hughes was particularly concerned about cancer patients having to travel a great distance to receive treatment. "As I understand it, by providing additional funds, the expansion program can move forward thus enabling more patients to get their treatments locally rather than traveling to another institution some miles away. As we see it, this is a most worthy service to the community," he said.

Please continue the Hughes legacy and donate today.
