Question: What’s the difference between pediatric dentistry and regular dentistry?
Pediatric dentistry focuses on the oral health of young people. Pediatric Dentists, also known as Pedodontists, are board certified specialists. After completing dental school, Pediatric Dentists go through an average of three years of extra training to meet the unique needs of infants, children and adolescents, including special needs children. Pediatric dentists have expertise in behavioral management of children; they also are experienced in providing treatment under sedation, including nitrous oxide and general anesthesia. In addition, they help promote positive aspects of dental care by providing a welcoming environment, extra attention, and understanding to their patients. Pedodontists are the Pediatricians of the dental world.
