NEWS RELEASE
Local Musical Group Will Come Together Again To Raise Money for Cancer Center
"New Approach" will present their 40th Annual Show on Friday, August 6 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, August 7 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, August 8 at 2:00 pm. The shows will be held at the air-conditioned Bangor Middle School in Bangor, PA. This energetic production will cover hits made popular by the group over the past forty years, revisiting production numbers such as: Ease On Down The Road, Joyful Joyful, The Fifth Dimension Medley, One, and a segment of songs from the 50s to name just a few. All production numbers are backed by a live band.
The tickets for the show are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and $3 for children under 12. They will be available at the door, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Plainfield Township, by calling 610-588-4386 or visiting the website at thenewapproach.org. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center at Pocono Medical Center.
Bangor resident Jean Pinto started "New Approach" in 1968, shortly after her neighborhood friend died of cancer. Ms. Pinto brought her friends, family and neighbors together to fight cancer with talent, using a "new approach" to fundraising by putting on musical performances to benefit cancer treatment and research organizations. Many members of "New Approach" have been affected by cancer in some way themselves over the years - an unfortunate but common denominator that has continued to bring them together each year. They have donated more than $300,000 in proceeds from their performances to cancer facilities, including the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center.
Terry Toth, Assistant Director is excited for the 2010 show and looks forward to the community participation in this cause. "It is so incredible to know that we have amazing cancer care available right here in our neighborhood. People do not have to travel to Philadelphia or New York. It means a great deal to me personally that our money is going locally, where we can see the benefits of it each and every day."
