NEWS RELEASE
National Doctors Day is Celebrated Locally
According to consumer research, each month approximately 40,000 patients across the United States provide online feedback about their experiences with their physicians. Various components of the patient visit are rated, including bedside manner, doctor-patient face time, degree of follow-up, courtesy of the staff, and overall opinions about the quality of care provided by the physician. MDx Medical Inc. analyzes these responses to tabulate their coveted “Patient’s Choice” awards, which are presented to a select group of physicians in the nation who have received exceptionally high ratings by patients who participate in online ratings.
MDx Medical Inc. recently presented these awards to Charles K. Herman, MD, FACS, Medical Director of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at PMC; Michael J. Greenberg, MD, Radiation Oncologist and Medical Director of the Dale & Frances Hughes Cancer Center at PMC; and Patricia Martz, MD, FACS, General Surgeon at PMC. According to MDx, fewer than 6% of the nation’s 720,000 active physicians received this honor. Kathleen E. Kuck, President and CEO of Pocono Health System/Pocono Medical Center, explains the significance of this award, stating, “I would like to congratulate them for their commitment to our patients and thank them for helping PMC provide exceptional patient care, close to home for our community. Their dedication to excellence is part of the reason why we are the New Face of Health Care.”
The online feedback is provided on a variety of databases on the internet such as Vitals.com, Health.com, as well as a variety of health insurance websites that allow for patient feedback. The reviews are completely unsolicited and thus represent the opinions of the patients. Some additional information in the databases includes a profile of the physician and his or her credentials, which includes Board certification, number of publications, hospital affiliations and reputations, as well as the prestige of the medical program in which the physician was trained. All of this information is made available to patients and insurers so that they can assess the physician when choosing whom to see for care.
