Q. These are tough economic times and my medications are expensive. How dangerous is it to skip some medications?
Many of us here in Monroe County take medications on a daily basis for cholesterol, high blood pressure, and other common disease states. With some of these disease states like hyperlipidemia, we can choose to skip a few doses and not feel worse. The short-term implications of not taking these and other meds are not apparent, but the long-term repercussions can be life threatening.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners found that 11 percent of Americans have cut back on prescriptions to make their prescriptions last longer. The only thing worse than skipping doses is not filling your prescriptions at all. The bottom line is that your health is of paramount importance and is truly priceless.
