Helping youngsters and their families manage pediatric asthma

What is the Community Asthma Education Program (CAEP)

The Community Asthma Education Program (CAEP) helps patients (ages 1 to 14 years) and their caregivers better manage pediatric asthma through medical care and education. When needed, the program provides referrals for housing, food and transportation services in the community.

This program will help you:

  • Learn more about asthma.
  • Learn how to help your child take his or her asthma medication.
  • Learn about things in your home that might make it harder to control your child's asthma.
  • Connect with other parents and caregivers whose children have asthma.

All staff members, including the patient navigator, are bilingual (English/Spanish). They will help you feel more comfortable managing your child's asthma and help you resolve issues related to pediatric asthma, such as household triggers.

Who is eligible for services through the CAEP?

Children who are patients of the Children's Clinic at Lehigh Valley Health Network (17th Street) and meet the following requirements are eligible for our program:

  • Diagnosed with moderate or severe pediatric asthma.
  • Patients ages 1 to 14 years.

Who runs CAEP?

This program is a partnership of Lehigh Valley Reilly Children's Hospital and LVHN's Department of Community Health. The Pediatric Asthma Program receives funding from the Dorothy Rider Pool Health Care Trust.
