Physical Therapy

Riverside Rehabilitation’s Physical Therapy program allows patients to reach their maximum physical potential using exercise, manual therapy, modalities (such as ice, heat, and electrical stimulation), and patient education. Patients work together with clinicians as a team to help them reach their specific rehabilitation goals.

Physical therapy improves function and relieves pain. Orthopedic and sports injuries, work injuries, neurological disorders, traumas, wounds, chronic pain, and sprains/strains are commonly treated through physical therapy. Riverside Rehabilitation’s physical therapists also work within the community by giving health and safety presentations at area schools, businesses, and local service organizations.

Patients who suffer from common disorders such as back and neck pain; head injury; osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis; spinal stenosis; tendon or ligament issues; or vertigo; or are recovering from stroke, back surgery, or joint replacement surgery benefit from Physical Therapy.

With Riverside Rehabilitation’s Physical Therapy program, our therapists work with our patients to:

  • Improve muscle function and gait
  • Increase balance and flexibility
  • Regain strength and stamina
  • Increase mobility and reduce pain to promote optimal function
  • Decrease overall joint stress with New Aquatic Therapy, featuring warm water temperatures that reduce muscle spasms and increase circulation, therefore permitting exercises not tolerated on land. Available at our Mountain Healthcare Center location in Tobyhanna.

Occupational Therapy

Riverside Rehabilitation’s Occupational Therapy program improves range of motion, strength, coordination, and sensation of upper extremities. Instruction or retraining of activities of daily living is available to help patients remain independent and overcome difficulties in performing everyday tasks that can result from illness or injury.

Patients who suffer from arthritis; carpal tunnel syndrome; cognitive impairment, elbow injuries; forearm injuries; hand injuries; neurological disorders; stroke; tendonitis; trauma; work injuries; and wrist injuries benefit from Occupational Therapy. With Riverside Rehabilitation’s Occupational Therapy program, our therapists are trained to treat the most complex cases, and include Certified Hand Therapists.

Riverside Rehabilitation’s Work Injury program includes job simulation, treatment programs, and patient education. Riverside Rehabilitation is committed to the injured employee, the employer, and the payer to provide a quality, outcome-oriented rehabilitation service. Emphasis is placed on education of the patient's diagnosis, posture, body mechanics, and ergonomic assessments for a safe transition back to work.

Speech Therapy

Riverside Rehabilitation offers a Speech Therapy program patients with disorders resulting from brain injuries, strokes, and other neurological and auditory processing disorders. A licensed speech pathologist, certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association, evaluates patients referred by their physicians and creates an individualized treatment plan to help them reach their communication goals.

Riverside Rehabilitation’s certified speech therapists treat both children and adults for auditory processing disorders; difficulties with articulation and word fluency; aphasia; phonological disorders; cognitive deficits; apraxia; dysarthria; swallowing problems; voice conditions; language disorders; and tongue thrusts; and assist with social interaction skills.

Cancer Rehabilitation

For patients undergoing treatment from cancer, rehabilitation can be beneficial during any stage. Our trained therapists treat patients suffering from general deconditioning and fatigue; frozen shoulder; radiation fibrosis; pain, muscle weakness, and swollen limbs; decreased range of motion; impaired balance and gait; decreased functional independence; and dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, and loss of voice.

With Riverside Rehabilitation’s Cancer Rehabilitation program, our team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists can work together to minimize these symptoms to promote patient independence and improve overall quality of life.
