Sowmya Lakshminarayanan, MD

Dr. Lakshminarayanan is triple board-certified neurologist and is the Medical Director of Neurology at Pocono Health System. She is triple board-certified in Neurology, Vascular Neurology and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Lakshminarayanan is certified in both Sleep Medicine and Vascular Medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. 

She earned her medical degree from Thanjavur Medical College, Dr. MGR Medical University, India. Dr. Lakshminarayanan completed her internship in Internal Medicine at New York Medical College, NY. She then completed her Neurology Residency from New Jersey Neuroscience Institute-Seton Hall University, NJ where she served as a chief resident during her last year. After graduation of her Neurology Residency, Dr. Lakshminarayanan completed a fellowship in Neurophysiology and subsequently a 2 year fellowship in Sleep Medicine, both at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute, NJ. She also held the position of research assistant for Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). 

Following completion of her fellowships, Dr. Lakshminarayanan joined as an Assistant professor of Neurology at UMDNJ Robert wood Johnson Medical school where she was actively involved in clinical teaching and practice. Dr. Lakshminarayanan then joined Reading Health system, PA in 2009 as Chief of Neurology, Dual Medical Director for Neurophysiology and Sleep Medicine and served there until July 2015. She held an active clinical practice there in addition to various administrative roles. In September 2015, Dr. Lakshminarayanan joined Pocono Health System as Medical Director of Neurology and is looking forward to building a comprehensive Neuroscience program that will be of benefit to the community. 

Dr. Lakshminarayanan is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology, the American Stroke Association, the American Epilepsy Association, and the American Association of Sleep Medicine. She practices at PMC PA Neurology in East Stroudsburg.
